The year of Sharing هي واحدة من أجمل قصص الخيال العلمي التي قرأتها للكاتب الكندي / الإنجليزي هاري جيلبرت (Harry Gilbert) ، وهو كاتب من مواليد كندا وانتقل للعيش صغيرا في إنجلترا حيث انهى دراسته وعمل كاستاذ للغة الإنجليزية. الكاتب من مواليد 1946.
The Year of Sharing هي قصة صغيرة من حوالي 40 صفحة نشرتها مؤسسة جامعة أكسفورد للنشر وتعتبر من ضمن المستوى الثاني من سلسلة كتب Bookworm المخصصة لداراسين اللغة الإنجليزية، القصة عادة ما تكون موجودة في مكتبات المدارس الدولية ( المدارس التي تدرس مناهج بريطانية مثل منهج كامبريدج ).
أرشح بشدة هذه القصة لكل الأطفال الذين يحبون قصص الخيال العلمي، لان القصة تتحدث عن تصوّر للحياة في المستقبل حيث سيترك الإنسان للحيوانات المجال للسيطرة على كوكب الأرض، ليعيش الإنسان في قرى بشرية صغيرة خالية من الحيوانات.
بطل القصة هو طفل عمره 12 عاما، يدعى Richard ، بدأ تجربة العيش مع الحيوانات لأنه قد بلغ عامه الثاني عشر، وهو شيء روتيني تفعله كل القرى البشرية في المستقبل، إذ تجبر الاطفال على الخروج للعيش مع حيوان ما ، بعض الاطفال يعودون من هذه الرحلة التي تستمر لمدة العام ، ولكن البعض الآخر لا يعود أبداً.
القصة تتكون من خمسة فصول رئيسية وهي بالترتيب :

The Year of Sharing is a very beautiful science fiction story. It is written by Harry Gilbert. He was born in Canada in 1946, but he moved to England when he was young. He studied there and became an English teacher.
About the Book
This book is short (about 40 pages). It is published by Oxford University Press. It is a Stage 2 book in the Oxford Bookworms series. Many students in international schools read this story to learn English.
The Story
I think all children who like science fiction should read this book. The story is about the future. In this future, animals rule the Earth. Humans live in small villages without any animals.
Richard’s Journey
The hero of the story is a 12-year-old boy named Richard. In this future world, every child must leave home when they are 12. They must go and live with animals for one year. This is called “The Year of Sharing.”
It is a dangerous journey. Some children come back after one year, but some children never come back.
